Akson Restaurant

As a kid, I was always excited to pass by this restaurant in Panjagutta, because we could get to see the chefs make the famous Kerala Porotta (I still get excited seeing the chef flip the porotta in the air!). So eating from here was a natural choice the moment I got a chance! I don’t think I will enjoy the parotta in any other place as much I do it here. This can be had with their amazing roast chicken curry or the egg masala curry or better yet, the egg burji. Their Fish fry also tastes good but even better is their chicken biryani too! They were a small café and have now become a nice restaurant 😊.

Meridian

From nearly 20 years (or probably more), there is a very famous mutton shop in Panjagutta. It was called the Shanbhag mutton shop because it was right next to the erstwhile Shanbhag hotel (which incidentally is a veg place!). There was always a queue at this place – such was the quality of mutton sold here. The owner of this shop has opened up a restaurant next to the shop and this is called Meridian! We had a lot of kababs at this place, and just like the quality of mutton, the taste of all these kababs was also very good!

Price Range: Rs. 300-400 for two
Location: Punjagutta circle

Step-in-Bakers

This Bakers is right at the Panjagutta junction. Amongst all the items, the one standing out was Chicken chaw chaw – had a mild taste with a sauce that had many vegetables in it! Otherwise, all other stuff we ate there was normal onlyl (fried rice, chicken 65, mutton 65 etc).

Price Range: ~ Rs.300-400 for 2 people
Location: Panajgutta circle

Seventh Heaven

Right from the time it opened about 12-14 years back, I was always wanting to go here but somehow the trip never materialised! It happened finally this year, and boy, I realised how much was missed!

We started off with Bangkok Chicken, Fish Kabab and Tangdi Kabab. The Bangkok Chicken was one of it's kind. It had some nice spicy sauce all over the chicken pieces on the plate. This dish is strongly, I repeat, strongly recommended :). The Tangdi kabab was hot and tasty.

For main course, we just had space for biryani. They recommended Hundi Biryani and we liked it too. But like I said earlier, the starters were filling enough and we walked out a super happy bunch, ready to go home and sleep luxuriously!

Price: ~500-600 for 2
Location: Panjagutta centre (this is on the seventh floor of this building, and hence the name)

Bowl-O-China

A one time visit is all that I could manage to this place so far! Had schezuan chicken fried rice with some fish curry... don't recollect the name. Will update this the next time I go there.. this delay in updating is causing the memory loss :(

Sri Kavya Food joint

Located right beside Anjappar, in Panjagutta, this is another parcel only joint. Tried biryani, mutton varities and chicken varities. No complaints at all :) .. just walk in and pick up any non-veg dish - I don't think you will be disappointed.

Roll Call

Like the name suggests, this place offers a variety of rolls. We've tried 5-6 different varities of rolls, and all of them tasted good. With any roll, I make it a point to have double egg in it :). And depending on my mood, we will add either chicken or mutton to it :). These yummy rolls make for one of the best appetizers for dinner. If you get a chance, never miss to grab a quick bite here.

Subway

I get hungry within 2 hours of eating a foot long sub too! So, it pains me to spend more than 100 bucks to eat something, and then within 2 hours, spend another 100 bucks to eat a Biryani outside ;-) !

This does not mean to say that the offerings of the menu are not good ;-). To keep it simple, you can just have the Egg with cheese sub. It is the best bet for a quick bite. To make it a little more complicated, you can add your choice of vegetables too. Only Ranch and Red Chilli sauce go good with the egg sub. Chicken Tikka Sub and also the chicken meatball sub are tasty. Mayonese and Southwest sauces are good with these. I do NOT like black olives, and therefore avoid them at all costs!

I never knew I will say this - but their veggie delight salad is truly a delight! If you get a chance, don't miss it!

Shanbhag

This along with Kamat, is the Grand Old Hotel of Hyderabad :D. Once my favorite tiffin place, this has become just another place I would go just because it has been a while since I have been there. Nonetheless, all tiffins are good here, especially the onion dosa and the rawa dosa. This has changed location three times and now even the name has been changed to Samarth Shanbhag. But for us, it will always remain as Shanbhag!

Noodle Bar

This place is located insidethe Hyderabad Central. The speciality of this place is that you can get to choose your own noodles. The give you a big list of options, which you can check and they make the noodles accordingly! So go ahead, and check your favorite stuff! Just be careful not to have too many sauces in your choice. One mild and one spicy sauce should be good enough. Vegetarians will love this place, because they just have too many vegetables in these options!

Anjappar

Let me directly come to the best part - Chicken Biryani! This is not like the typical dum ka biryani we get at other places, but more like the Pulao they make at home. Just too good :) For starters, the Anjappar Fried Chicken, Apollo Fish, Fish Fry are very good options. Chicken/Mutton soup is also very good, and tastes very much like what it is in Malgudi. Idiappam with Fish Pulusu is also a good option for main course, but given a choice, go for the chicken biryani! However, the service is not something we liked there. There are just too many waiters, waiting for a signal from you! They don't know what half the items are, and sometimes are even confused as to how to serve! And vegetarians have no Anjappar specials here. They have to adjust with the Chinese stuff on the menu. Surely, you wouldn't want to eat Chinese food in a restaurant by the name Anjappar :D ! They can order the Thali, which is in no way a unique one. But non vegetarians can have a field day here, that's for sure!

Chutneys

This restaurant recently got into national news because Rahul Gandhi had tiffin at this place. He had Guntur Idli and Steam Dosa. Both good choices, I must say! It took me a long time after the restaurant actually opened to visit it, but after my first visit, I liked the place much better than the "Grand Old Hotels", Shanbhag and Kamat. This place serves us with 5 chutneys unlimited, for any kind of tiffin we order. Both the Guntur Idli, and the Babai Hotel Idli are must for anyone entering this place. If your apetitite still permits, have the mint dosa, or the steam dosa. If your apetitite still permits, have the onion and tomato Uttappam. By now, your apetite would have been saturated :D! There is also this dish in which they serve us with four different small uttapams ( mint, onion, tomato, and karam). I did not like the mint and the karam uttapam as much I liked the other two, so I ordered just the Onion and Uttappam during my next visit J. aND DON'T FORGET THEIR COFFEE! This place also serves South Indian and North Indian thalis for lunch and dinner, but is best known for tiffins and hence we shouldn't miss a chance to have them instead of the regular meals.

New Kritunga

Outside of a mess, when was the last time, you had just white rice and curry? Better yet, if you are a fan of Rayalseema food, when was the last time you ate "raagi sankati" and "jonna roti" in a hotel outside of Rayalseema?! New Kritunga offers you precisely that menu, and there is just no doubt that is scores very high points. I am not a big fan of neither the sankati nor the roti! So, I have only tasted the curries here along with white rice. Most of the times, I get them parceled to home, because the size of these places are small and they are almost full. Rayalseema mutton fry, chicken fry, mutton curry, chicken curry, brain curry, and even the liver fry are all ethnic in their taste. You can have any of these curries with "ragi sankati" and "jonna roti". Like I mentioned before, white rice adequately compensates for these two items. The pricing is also very moderate. A meal for two will cost no more than Rs.300/-. I think with the kind of business this guy has been getting, he will be expanding the space inside, sooner or later. Maybe then we can sit in and eat there more regularly. I haven't actually eaten in Rayalseema to know how the food should actually taste, but I am pretty sure this guy is close!
