The famed MLA Potlam Biryani is from this place! The presentation lives up true to it’s name. Potlam means packet – this is prawns biryani wrapped in a packet (potlam) of omlette 😊. The taste was good but certainly not exceptional. What is exceptional here though is their Palleturi Kodi Pulao (Village Style). The chitti mutyala rice, the stock used to cook it, the many chicken pieces in it – all of it makes for some great eating experience. There is also another dish you must definitely try here – the avakaya chicken biryani! It's simply unbelievable how good the combination of avakaya and chicken tastes!
In Hyderabad, Eat here!
Saarvi
If it’s Haleem season, then you must must have their Haleem. They have a dish called Special Haleem (with nuts and egg added) but in my opinion their regular haleem is in itself a special one indeed! For main course, their Chicken Biryani is awesome. Couple that with some tandoori chicken and you will have a great eating experience!
Satti babu Biryani
There was this period of a week or two, where when you open facebook, one of the first reels that was popping up was Sattibabu Biryani! And the short reel was indeed very appetizing to watch. Their concept is simple – very tasty bagara rice accompanied by chicken or mutton or prawns, according to your choice. And now if video is so appetizing, then why would I not order it? And then in the ordering platform, I see that the ratings are not very good. I go ahead and order it anyway, and then realise why the ratings are so low! I ordered joint-piece biryani. What they sent was a deep fried Chicken Joint piece and the bagara rice. The chicken wasn’t as tasty as it looked in the video! The rice was good, but my next order will definitely not be a joint-piece biryani. Will give this place one more try with mutton and then decide what to do!
SV Pulav and Sea Snack
I’d recommend that you directly order from Swiggy/Zomato instead of going here to pick up. This place is basically run by the same folks who run the Hibachi meat shop, in Kukatpally. Their Pulav is truly one of the best in the town – you can try either the chicken or the mixed pulav. You may complain about the quantity of chicken in the pulav but you will forget all that once you start eating the pulav! Their Fish Fry and Chicken Fry are also very good – these are deep fried dishes but retain a very good spicy taste!
Biryani Stories
Though no stories can be told about Biryanis here 😊, the food definitely hasn’t disappointed. I got bored of the usual dum biryani so had the Raju Gari Biryani and Chicken-65 biryani. The typical Raju Gari Biryani in various places is a little wet but it was not so in this case. They also added red food colour but I still liked the taste. The Chicken 65 biryani was also good but the most surprising offer was the Gongura Mutton! They had ample amount of mutton (many places don’t do this much mutton!) with the right proportion of gongura mixed. I was ruing that I didn’t order White rice along with this! Also, there are very few places that serve authentic Godavari prawns – turns out Biryani stories is one such place 😊. The place definitely will be visited multiple times!
EMYEE
Some creativity there with the name! I haven’t physically been to this place but ordered a couple of times and liked the food each time. Their Special Chicken Biryani is really good – basically boneless chicken with egg and biryani. Butter Nan and Lachcha Paratha with Tandoori chicken was so filling but definitely not heavy on the tummy!
Potful
Their concept is simple – your dum biryani order is put on the stove in a pot after you place the order. So you actually get it directly delivered with the seal intact on the pot! The aroma of the biryani when you open up the pot is simply awesome and may even half-fill your stomach! I’d have preferred if they had more pieces in both their mutton and chicken biryanis. Especially their mutton biryani had too less pieces and therefore not much of mutton flavour in them.
Behrouz Biryani
Simple menu, because they serve only biryanis and also don’t have a restaurant – they deliver from their kitchens I think! Chicken and Mutton biryanis were good – not too spicy but good flavour of the masala that differentiates them from the regular dum biryanis. I even got to taste their Paneer biryani but have no opinion to offer on it 😊
Chaitanya Food Court
If you are in Kukatpally and haven’t heard about this place, then you are not in Kukatpally! One of the very popular joints despite pricing being a little on the higher side. We’ve tried many items here – some are good, some are average. Natu kodi biryani tastes quite well. Chicken Tikka is average but the tangdi kabab is quite good. Their usual chicken biryani is also quite good, but I heard that their Ulavacharu Chicken biryani is better! Their chicken schezwan fried rice and apollo fish are tasty too.
Tasty Bowl
Saw an interesting dish on their menu – Chicken 65 Sambar Rice.
Got very tempted and ordered it. And for backup, I also ordered Chicken Fry Piece
biryani. Turns out that the back up was better than the main item 😊 – I learnt
that Chicken 65 and Sambar Rice don’t go well together!
Maa ooru biryani
What a concept, what a taste! Maa ooru biryani is one of the first places to introduce Donne Biryani. Donne are basically palm leaves. The aroma of the biryani when cooked and served in them is simply outstanding. It doesn’t matter if it is chicken, mutton or egg – the flavour of the biryani simply trumps everything else! The rice used is also a lighter variety – chitti mutyalu. It isn’t very heavy on your stomach (atleast mine 😉). One order of biryani is good enough for one person (no sharing please!). You can order any of the Chicken, Mutton or Egg biryanis from them.
Kuchipudi Pulav
This restaurant had a fantastic concept but unfortunately their execution was very bad that they had to close this down. Infact, they had about 3 branches in the city at one time. The concept basically is that you can select your choice of rice, meat/vegetable, and spices. After you place your order, they will start cooking this in a pressure cooker – And in about 15 minutes, the cooker is on your table. The flavour used to be fantastic, but where they *always* screwed up your order – either the rice was chosen wrong or the meat was. The spices were never the same that you specifically order. At times, it felt like the meat was stale too. I wasn’t surprised for sure when they closed.
Bhojanam Restaurant
The pandemic caused them to close but what an awesome place this was. I love places where you don’t have to look at the menu, think, have a discussion around the table and then take stress on how you will share all the items we ordered! They simply offer a Biryani Thali – 8 different types of biryani in small bowls in one thali! Can you imagine all the excitement the stomach goes through 😊? If they open back after the pandemic, then I’d definitely recommend this place for some real nice biryanis. The place is small though, so if you are someone who look for good aesthetics, then perhaps you may be disappointed.
Moghul’s Paradiez
Note the spelling of Paradiez 😃. Located near the forum mall in Kukatpally, this place has some nice food. Chicken Thai Fried Rice was a pleasant surprise – it tasted nothing like a Thai fried rice but was quite tasty 😊. It looks like a Hyderabadi version of Thai but I liked it nevertheless! Chilli fish and Chilli chicken were also quite good here. Their Chicken Biryani also had nice flavour in it – overall a good place to order tasty food from!
Raja Rani Ruchulu
Located in Kukatpally, the biryanis at this place are quite good. I think this is one of the few places where I’ve had Paneer Biryani too and liked it 😊. The chicken dum biryani and fish biryani were also quite good here. Definitely a reliable place to eat the biryani!
Mehfil Restaurant
They have multiple branches in the city. Their briyanis are supposed to be good, but for some reason I ended up ordering Chinese from them and was not very happy! We tried Mixed Fried Rice and Apollo Fish and felt they were just ordinary 😊. Perhaps next time, we will try biryanis and have a better experience. I’ve been told that their boneless chicken biryani is quite good and I generous in the amount of chicken that is served too!
Aladdin's Biryani
Tucked away in a small bylane in the KPHB Colony (Phase#9), this
is an awesome place to get some real tasty biryani. One of the charms of this
place is their packing of the biryani too! The biryani rice has a real good
flavour not found in any restaurant in the city (no exaggeration!) That's
because they call their biryanis as Guntur Biryanis and the
taste very well reflects Guntur! You can try any of their dum biryanis and
will not be disappointed. However they are also serve some fry pieces over the
biryani rice and those are also quite good. Their Chicken Drumstick fry
biryani, Chicken Lollipop biryani are worth tasting
definitely! Am sure you will also not be disappointed with Aladdin's
biryani.
Chickpet Donne Biryani House
What a concept, what a taste! We also had their chicken lollipop and pepper chicken from the starters list – they also tasted good. There are multiple branches of this place across the entire city of Hyderabad, so wherever you are, you can happily order and eat!
