Gunturolla Vanta

This is a small curries joint on the 13th phase KPHB road but what they offer is definitely not small! Their mutton curry (normal or gongura) quantity does real good justice to the price – I don’t recollect many places giving this quantity for that price. And oh, the curries are quite tasty too! Chicken fry, Chinthachiguru chicken, mutton curry, guthi vankaya curry and the tomato dal were also very tasty with white rice (ofcourse!). Real comfort food for the tummy!

Friends foods – Taste of Tamil Nadu

Another heavenly place where you get Gunta Ponganalu – the item is called Paniyaram in Tamil I guess. The taste of Paniyaram was excellent but what was a pleasant surprise was the taste of their onion chutney. This chutney also goes very well with the awesome Onion Rava Dosa, Podi dosa and Mysore Masala Dosa. For sure, this place has been favorited for getting some real hot and tasty tiffins!

Davanagere Benne Dosa

Very simple menu to choose from, but you will just keep wanting to go back here again and again for that awesome taste. Dosas with loads of butter and a batter that is very different from the usual hotel fare is the big hall mark. The coconut chutney and the smashed aloo paste that come along with the Benne Dosa are also very awesome. There is nothing much to choose here – just the quantity of Benne Dosa you want to have 😊.

Flavours of Taj Mahal

One of the most satisfying starters in life are their Fried Idli starter! Irrespective of the time of the day, I’d strongly recommend that you have this dish here. For tiffins, their Set Dosa is quite good. The TMH Cutlet is indeed tasty, as they claim. Poori Kurma is yet another nice dish to have here. While the south Indian thali is good, their assorted roti basket with curries like Methi Chaman and Dal Makhni are preferrable!

Times Tiffins

Another nice tiffins place in Miyapur. Their packaging is also quite good. Idly ofcourse is good with their chutneys. Rava Masala Dosa, Upma Pesarattu and Masala dosa all tasted quite good too.

Mr. Idly Dosa

I love the fancy names that come around Idly and Dosa! Yet another good tiffins place with good chutney too. Their Rava Dosa, Uttapams (plain, onion tomato), masala dosa, mysore masala dosa are all quite good with their yummy chutney! And ofcourse you can’t go wrong with idlies with a name like Mr. Idly Dosa 😊

Simply South

My brother, while on a visit, told me that he wanted to eat a Thali. So we ended up going to Simply South, only to be told that they have now stopped serving Thali but have a buffet instead. Reluctantly checked out the buffet, only to be amazed by their spread! Both their Veg and Non-Veg spreads are simply too good! Chicken pualo, mutton curries, fish fry/pulusu, Egg burji etc are all very tasty. We have been here a few times with team members and have liked the food each time we went! They serve Aapam to the table, and needless to say it is best had with a mutton or chicken curry 😊.

In Veg, I had their gummadakaya pulusu which was very authentic. This one time, there was coconut rice in the menu, and it was like eating at home! They have Malabar Parottas too, that go well with various curries that are served. Sometimes they even had garelu, as a starter, which again goes very well with non-veg curries.

7 Biryanis

Like the name suggests, they have 7 biryanis on their menu! Raju gaari kodi pulav has been had else where – so we didn’t try that (2 varities of the same – mutton and chicken). Dum Biryani has become boring, so didn’t try J. Rajamundry Ajantha Biryani was simply superb in taste! It comes with two leg pieces and a spicy curry on top of the pulav rice. When I am going back to this place, this will be the first dish I will order J. We had the kheema biryani too – no complaints! They also serve nice starters – we had Bangla Kodi – chicken wrapped in a Alu slice and deep fried J - this is a must try in their chain of restaurants. They do have curries too – but when you go to a place named 7 biryanis, why should you bother with eating curries? ;)

Coastal Spices

True to its name, the place serves nice spicy food J - We had appam with a few chicken and mutton curries (gongura mutton was quite good). I thought the costs were a little over-priced but maybe that’s because of the location too (Banjara Hills, Road#1). No complaints about the quality of the food though.

Nalaas Aapakadai

The name is a big toungue twister J - food is not that difficult to order though! For starters we had a full pompfret fish – I forgot the name of the flavours used though. It was good. For main course, we just had chicken chettinad, which was nice and spicy! And ofcourse we had aappam. These folks have a buffet option too – perhaps will try that the next time we go there.

Southern Mirchi

Nagarjuna circle is slowly starting to boast of nice food joints that are hidden from main road! You have Roll Call and Subway for snacks, Midways for Bakery stuff, Harahs for lunch, and now Southern Mirchi!

When you first open the menu, you will not find anything southern about it. The appetizers are all Chinese, but hidden amongst that big list of Chinese are a few southern dishes like chicken fry, fish fry etc.

But what's southern about this place is the main course! The fish fry is very good here. For the main course, mutton iguru, chepala pulusu, chettinad chicken, chicken pulao, white rice etc are all good options. We also had Egg Porutu, which was also good. Basically this dish goes well with roti/naan, and we don't get this dish in many restaurants!

We ended our meal with a "tooti fruity" icecream! This place has is opposite to cinema paradiso, and has been decorated from the outside in a way so as to give it the southern touch. The interior is good, but doesn't have the authentic southern touch. Ohh and also, the waiters could do with a clean uniform!

Location: Nagarjuna Circle

Cuisine: Chinese, South Indian

Price: Rs. 300-500/- for two
