7 sisters

To do some poetic justice, 7 of us boys went to this place – you know, 7 brothers visiting 7 sisters 😝. Though this place also claims to have food from the NE states, the cuisine is majorly from various countries like Tibet, Nepal, Indonesia, Thailand and China! Tucked in a nice ambience in the HITEX road, I’d very strongly recommend this place for some awesome comfort food. To begin with, their dumplings, especially the fried ones are awesome. Both the veg and chicken dumplings were really really good. The Chilli Basil Fish, Prawns Tempura, Wok tossed Wild mushrooms, Chilly baby corn were yet another treat to the taste buds! The Tibetean Thupka bowl was devoured by everyone as if it was some competition! We also had Indonesian Fried Rice and the Pad Thai – the reaction to these both was mixed but I liked both these dishes too. Am for sure going back to this place to try many other dishes on their menu – we couldn’t get to the Korean and Singaporean ones in this visit.

Tashi

Tucked away in a small bylane near the Peddamma Temple in Jubilee Hills, Tashi has been an excellent find for us! It is a veg only restaurant and offers almost everything that is on the menu in Jain options too. The variety on the menu is very impressive and requires multiple visits to try out these awesome options! We had the Taco Salad, which was fresh and very tasty! Their dim sums are certainly something worthy returning to eat! The Red Thai Curry along with rice is one of the best you will find in the city, taste wise (though I would have preferred it to be a little more runny!). The Hakka noodles and Tibetan Thupka are also very good here – especially the Thupka!

Far East Asia

There are very few restaurants who make the awesome Tibetean Thupka. And Far East Asia is one of them! Their Thupka Noodles bowl is a festival for the digestive system! The momochas are one of the best light starters one can imagine of having before a hearty meal. Their coconut milk flavoured Khow suey Noodles bowl is also really awesome. Their Thai curries (both green and red), with the rice bowls are worth trying multiple times too!

Beijing Bistro

The name Lung Fung soup sounds odd, but the taste of this soup is quite awesome in Beijing Bistro! This place actually has some very good Thai and Chinese food. In addition to Lung Fung, Lemon Coriander Soup is quite good. Tom Yum Soup and the Chef’s special soup is also very tasty. Kung Pao Chicken, Veg Spring Roll and Drums of Heaven are good starters to have. Thai Basil Fried rice and Pad Thai noodles are also good for the main course.

Tim Tai

True to their attractive name, they also offer an attractive menu of Asian cuisine. The Tom Yum soup here is as good as it can get for us 😊.  For starters, their steamed fish wrapped in banana leaf is one of their best dishes. The Dimsum platter (both veg and non-veg) are super light, and tasty too. Similar to Calamari dish, they have tempura squid too. I’ve had the Thai Chilli Basil noodles and Khao Pad rice during one visit. Nothing to complain about 😊. However, what stood out in a later visit was the Thai Massaman Curry and Malaysian Rendang Curry for the main course! These dishes were again as good as they could get!

Thai Express

Nicely perched on the first floor just beside Q Mart in Banjara Hills, this restaurant is one of those that really serves different kind of food, that is very close to the authentic cuisine of Thailand. For a change, we asked the waiter only to guide us through the entire menu and suggest what we should have. The coconut flavoured soup with mushrooms and chicken in it was simply superb. I am not a fan of coconut at all, but this soup was just brilliant! Fried squid as a starter was just an apt combination for this soup.

I realise now that I should have actually noted down the names of the main course items I ate. That's because they all unique Thai names that sound funny to the core! Alas, the concetration was on eating and hence no real names for now :( . Have the noodles in some kind of green soup, that has the right amount of spice, and it will surely make you feel like you are in Thailand! And for desserts, there is this soft rectangular white coloured thing that they wrap in a banana leaf and give it you....ahhhh... eat it to experience it! That's all I can say! For sure, we are going back there again.

Thai Ban

Ok, I will start with a wierd observation. Chinese people add a "san" at the end of your name, if they are calling you with respect. I am assuming "ban" stands for the same in Thai :D. ok ok, let's get back to the saner world ;-)

This small place tucked away in the line of buildings opposite Brand Factory on Banjara Hills Road No.2 is simply awesome! That's it. That's the word. The Tom Yum soup is much better that other thai places in the city, and maybe the chef's hand is really good! We ordered a chicken cooked with a roasted thai paste (I don't remember its Thai name L ), and though it was spicy, it tasted very good. I think the key point here is that we have to eat it slowly over some time and not just grab it and eat it (old habits die hard, u see ;-) )!

And people, it will be a sin if you don't eat their Khad Pao, a specialized Thai rice. Believe me, I have eaten in some places which supposedly serve this, but this one was way too good and most probably is the authentic version of the original dish. We ordered prawns along with this, but I guess two spice items don't go well together. Next time, we should maybe take something mild that will go well with Khao Pad.

Sandeep bhai wanted to try a salad too, and we ordered the Papaya salad. We were actually expecting he will get papaya's :D, but the look of the dish surprised us. The taste surprised us too, in a good way! I must say, Thai ban is surely going to be a place that we will frequent more from now on.

Cuisine: Thai (of course ;-) ), Chinese

Cost: Rs. 600-800/- for two persons

Shangai’s Dice

This is more like an offspring of Wang's Kitchen. There is nothing to mention in this place that will stand out. I heard that "Khao Pad" is a good thai dish, and ordered that here. But then, it was just curry spread over fried rice. I am pretty sure this is not the way it should have been prepared. Anyway, this is just a mediocore place taste wise, and I wouldn't recommend it if you have any other choice.

Location: Opposite Madhapur Petrol Bunk, Madhapur

Cuisine: Chinese, Thai

Canton

Well, this is more like an offspring of Wang's Kitchen ;-).

However, the Lung Fung soup, and Mo-Mo (recommended by Akanksha), Prawns stand out at this place. Different kinds of rices, and noodles are similar to what Wang's offers, which means the food is good here too! If you visit this place, then the recommended items above are a must!

Wang’s Kitchen

As you enter this place, you might not get to see Mr. Wang, but you will definitely get to see his kitchen inside! There is a glass window separating the kitchen and the actual restaurant, and so you can peek while the chef conjures up his culinary products.

And Mr. Wang's Kitchen must be visited, if only for the Hanoi, hot-and-sour, and Tom-Yum soups. If you are a non-vegetarian, Fish Phuket and Dry Schezuan Chicken are a must. Especially the fish phuket, a Thai speciality, is bound to entice your taste buds. Spring rolls and Schezuan vegetables are good choices for vegetarians. Main course will go along the standard lines of eating rice or noodles with a curry. Wang's fried rice along with Schezuan fish is again a good option, but if you have already had fish for starters, you can try any prawn dish.

This place offers all Thai, Malaysian and Chinese cuisines, so if you order one item from each of these, you will have tasted all of them!
